Hyaluronidase (hyalase)

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme used to hyaluronic acid fillers dissolve safely and in a controlled manner. This treatment is suitable when a previously placed filler does not give the desired result, causes complaints or needs to be corrected. At Xavier Clinics we perform hyaluronidase treatments exclusively on medical indication and with the utmost care.

Safety, expertise and honest treatment advice always come first.

When is hyaluronidase used?

A hyaluronidase treatment can be used for:

  • An unnatural or overcorrected result

  • Asymmetry after a filler treatment

  • Displacement (migration) of filler

  • Swelling or bump formation

  • Blue discoloration (Tyndall effect)

  • Medical complications requiring rapid intervention

Hyaluronidase works exclusively on hyaluronic acid fillers and not on permanent fillers or other materials.

Hyaluronidase treatment: our approach

At Xavier Clinics we always assess first whether hyaluronidase is actually necessary. Not every problem requires complete dissolving of a filler; sometimes, simply adjusting the procedure is sufficient.

Our approach consists of:

  • An extensive consultation and analysis

  • Assessment of the type and location of the filler

  • Use of hyaluronidase in precisely dosed quantities

  • Focus on safety, control and restoration of natural contours

Important:
Hyaluronidase is administered exclusively by experienced cosmetic physicians with in-depth knowledge of anatomy.

Result of a hyaluronidase treatment
  • (Partial or complete) breakdown of hyaluronic acid filler

  • Improvement of asymmetry or unwanted contours

  • Reduction of complaints or tension

  • Quickly visible effect

The enzyme usually starts within hours to days to work. The final result depends on the amount of filler and the product used.

Frequently asked questions about hyaluronidase

What exactly is hyaluronidase?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid and is used to dissolve fillers.

Is hyaluronidase safe?

Yes, when administered by an experienced physician and for the correct indication. At Xavier Clinics, we follow strict medical protocols.

Is hyaluronidase treatment painful?

The injection may be slightly sensitive. If desired, a numbing cream can be applied beforehand.

How fast does hyaluronidase work?

In many cases the effect is within 24 to 72 hours visible. Sometimes multiple treatments are necessary.

Is my own hyaluronic acid also broken down?

Yes, hyaluronidase can also temporarily break down the body's own hyaluronic acid. This process will resolve itself within a few weeks.

Can any filler be dissolved?

No. Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers, not on permanent or semi-permanent fillers.

Is one treatment enough?

This varies depending on the situation. Sometimes one session is sufficient, sometimes multiple treatments are necessary.

Can I have fillers placed again after this?

Yes, but we usually advise against to wait a few weeks, so that the tissue can fully recover.

Are there any side effects?

Make an appointment online

Consultation with the medical specialist

Before all treatments, a consultation is scheduled. During this consultation, the specialist will listen to your wishes and explore the options available to achieve them. The specialist will thoroughly inform you about pre- and aftercare, the expected results, any risks, and the recovery process for the chosen treatment.

The treatment

Once you've chosen to undergo treatment with us, we'll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire and sign a treatment agreement beforehand. If you take a lot of medication, please bring your medication list to your appointment.

Photos will be taken of you both before and after the treatment for your medical records. In some cases, the skin is locally anesthetized with a numbing cream or anesthetic solution before the treatment.

Aftercare

After the treatment, you will receive an aftercare form by email. You do not need to stay at the clinic and can go home immediately. It is common for the skin to be red and swollen after the treatment, and sometimes some bruising may occur. These side effects will disappear on their own. It is important that you cool the treated area well with the cool pack you received, if advised. If you experience severe bruising, we recommend applying Arnica cream to the treated area.

It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for the first four hours after treatment. Exposure to intense heat (sun, sauna, or tanning bed) is also discouraged for one week after treatment. We advise against having a facial for two weeks after treatment. You can assess the final result after two weeks.

If you have any questions about your recovery, please feel free to contact us.

The risk of complications is very small. As with any procedure, there is a small risk of infection or allergy.
