Smoker's lines

Smoker's lines, also known as vertical lines around the mouth, can give the face a tired or older appearance. These fine wrinkles are caused by repetitive muscle movements (such as smoking or pursing the lips), skin aging, and loss of volume. Xavier Clinics in Amsterdam We treat smoker's lines effectively and safely with high-quality hyaluronic acid fillers, for a natural and refined result.

What are smoker's lines?

Smoker's lines are small vertical wrinkles that form primarily above the upper lip and sometimes around the mouth. They're not unique to smokers; sun exposure, genetics, and collagen depletion also play a significant role. Without treatment, these lines can gradually deepen and even remain visible at rest.

Fill smoker's lines with fillers

At Xavier Clinics, smoker's lines are treated with subtle, low-dose fillers that support the skin from within. The filler restores volume, improves skin texture, and softens lines without making the lips unnaturally full. The focus is always on a fresh, soft look while preserving the natural facial expressions.

The treatment

  • Duration: approx. 20–30 minutes
  • Anesthesia: possibly with anesthetic cream
  • Technique: very superficial and precise injections
  • Result: immediately visible, with further improvement after a few days

After the treatment, there may be slight swelling or redness, but this usually disappears quickly.

Result and durability

The result of a filler treatment against smoker's lines is usually 6 to 12 months Visible, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and the filler used. Regular maintenance treatments ensure a long-lasting and natural effect.

Consultation with the doctor

Before all treatments, a consultation is scheduled. During this consultation, the doctor will listen to your wishes and explore the options available to achieve them. The doctor will thoroughly inform you about the pre- and aftercare, the expected results, any risks, and the recovery process for the chosen treatment.

The treatment

Once you've chosen to undergo treatment with us, we'll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire and sign a treatment agreement beforehand. If you take a lot of medication, please bring your medication list to your appointment.

Photos will be taken of you both before and after the treatment for your medical records. In some cases, the skin is locally anesthetized with a numbing cream or anesthetic solution before the treatment.

Aftercare

After the treatment, you will receive an aftercare form by email. You do not need to stay at the clinic and can go home immediately. It is common for the skin to be red and swollen after the treatment, and sometimes some bruising may occur. These side effects will disappear on their own. It is important that you cool the treated area well with the cool pack you received, if advised. If you experience severe bruising, we recommend applying Arnica cream to the treated area.

It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for the first four hours after treatment. Exposure to intense heat (sun, sauna, or tanning bed) is also discouraged for one week after treatment. We advise against having a facial for two weeks after treatment. You can assess the final result after two weeks.

If you have any questions about your recovery, please feel free to contact us.

Risks

The risk of complications is very small. As with any procedure, there is a small risk of infection or allergy.
