Marionette lines

Marionette lines are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth towards the chin. They can give the face a gloomy, strict or tired appearance, even when you feel good. At Xavier Clinics we treat marionette lines on a subtle, natural and safe way, with an eye for the entire face.

Our philosophy is focused on rejuvenation without overcorrection, so that your appearance remains fresh and completely suits you.

How are marionette lines formed?

Marionette lines are caused by a combination of skin aging and changes in facial structure:

  • Decrease in collagen and elastin

  • Loss of volume around the mouth and jawline

  • Sagging skin and muscles

  • Repetitive facial expressions (talking, laughing)

  • Genetic predisposition

Often there are puppet lines not just a local problem. Loss of volume in the cheeks or a less defined jawline can accentuate the lines.

Marionette line filler: our approach

At Xavier Clinics we always look at the total face. Depending on your anatomy and wishes, the treatment may consist of:

  • Instant softening of the marionette lines

  • Support of the corners of the mouth

  • Improvement of the jawline or cheeks

  • A combination treatment for a harmonious result

We only use high-quality hyaluronic acid fillers that feel safe, biodegradable and natural.

Goal of treatment:
Softening lines and restoring a fresh, friendly appearance without making the face heavy or unnatural.

Result of a marionette line treatment
  • Softer facial expression

  • Less 'drooping' corners of the mouth

  • Improved facial balance

  • Immediately visible results

The result holds on average 9 to 12 months on, depending on skin type, product choice and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions about Puppet Lines

What exactly are puppet lines?

Marionette lines are vertical lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin. They are also called sad linesnamed because they can give the face a gloomy appearance.

Can marionette lines be treated well with fillers?

Yes. With the right technique and product selection, marionette lines can be effectively and safely softened.

Is the treatment painful?

Most fillers contain a numbing agent. If desired, we can use a numbing cream beforehand. The treatment is generally considered well-tolerated.

How long does a marionette line treatment take?

Average 20 to 30 minutes, including analysis and explanation.

Am I at risk of an unnatural result?

No. At Xavier Clinics we apply the principle less is more. We always strive for a natural and refined result.

Will I see results right away?

Yes, the result is immediately visible. The final effect will be visible after approximately 1 to 2 weeks.

What are possible side effects?

Mild swelling, redness or bruising may occur and usually disappear within a few days.

Can I combine marionette lines with other treatments?

Absolutely. Combinations with, for example jawline fillers, cheek fillers, skin boosters or collagen-stimulating treatments often give the most beautiful and lasting results.

How long does the effect last?

Average 9 to 12 months. This varies from person to person.

Consultation with the doctor

Before all treatments, a consultation is scheduled. During this consultation, the doctor will listen to your wishes and explore the options available to achieve them. The doctor will thoroughly inform you about the pre- and aftercare, the expected results, any risks, and the recovery process for the chosen treatment.

The treatment

Once you've chosen to undergo treatment with us, we'll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire and sign a treatment agreement beforehand. If you take a lot of medication, please bring your medication list to your appointment.

Photos will be taken of you both before and after the treatment for your medical records. In some cases, the skin is locally anesthetized with a numbing cream or anesthetic solution before the treatment.

Aftercare

After the treatment, you will receive an aftercare form by email. You do not need to stay at the clinic and can go home immediately. It is common for the skin to be red and swollen after the treatment, and sometimes some bruising may occur. These side effects will disappear on their own. It is important that you cool the treated area well with the cool pack you received, if advised. If you experience severe bruising, we recommend applying Arnica cream to the treated area.

It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for the first four hours after treatment. Exposure to intense heat (sun, sauna, or tanning bed) is also discouraged for one week after treatment. We advise against having a facial for two weeks after treatment. You can assess the final result after two weeks.

If you have any questions about your recovery, please feel free to contact us.

Risks

The risk of complications is very small. As with any procedure, there is a small risk of infection or allergy.
