Nasolabial fold

The nasolabial fold, also known as the nasolabial fold is the line that runs from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. This fold often becomes more visible as we age and can give the face a tired, sad, or older appearance. Xavier Clinics we treat the nasolabial fold in a subtle, natural and safe way, with an eye for the overall facial balance.

How does the nasolabial fold develop?

The nasolabial fold is caused by a combination of factors:

  • Loss of volume in the face

  • Decrease in collagen and elasticity

  • Sagging skin

  • Repetitive facial expressions (laughing, talking)

  • Genetic predisposition

It is important to know that the nasolabial fold is often not only locally needs to be treated. Sometimes the cause lies higher up in the face, such as loss of volume in the cheeks.

Nasolabial fold filler: our approach

At Xavier Clinics, we look beyond the fold itself. Our cosmetic doctors analyze the entire face and determine whether:

  • Immediate treatment of the nasolabial fold is necessary

  • Supporting the cheeks or jawline gives a better and more natural result

  • A combination treatment is the best option

We work exclusively with high-quality hyaluronic acid fillers that feel safe, biodegradable and natural.

The goal: softening the fold, without making the face heavy or unnatural.

Result of a nasolabial fold treatment
  • A fresher and softer look

  • Less deep lines next to the nose

  • Preservation of natural facial expressions

  • Immediately visible results

The effect lasts on average 9 to 12 months on, depending on skin type, lifestyle and product choice.

Frequently asked questions about the nasolabial fold

What exactly is a nasolabial fold?

The nasolabial fold is the fold that runs from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth. It often becomes more prominent due to skin aging and loss of volume.

Is a nasolabial fold filler safe?

Yes, provided it's performed by an experienced, BIG-registered physician. At Xavier Clinics, we work according to medical guidelines and use safe, premium-brand fillers.

Is a nasolabial fold treatment painful?

Most fillers contain a numbing agent. A numbing cream can also be used beforehand. The treatment is generally well tolerated.

How long will the treatment take?

The treatment takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, including analysis and explanation.

Don't I look 'sprayed on'?

No. Our philosophy is less is more. We always strive for a natural result, suitable for your face.

Can the nasolabial fold disappear completely?

In some cases, the fold can be significantly softened, but complete disappearance isn't always desirable or natural. The goal is rejuvenation, not deformity.

When will I see results?

The result is immediately visible, with an optimal effect after approximately 1 to 2 weeks.

What are possible side effects?

Mild swelling, redness or bruising may occur and usually disappear within a few days.

Can I combine the treatment with other treatments?

Yes, combinations with for example cheek fillers, skin boosters or collagen-stimulating treatments are very effective and are often recommended.

Consultation with the doctor

Before all treatments, a consultation is scheduled. During this consultation, the doctor will listen to your wishes and explore the options available to achieve them. The doctor will thoroughly inform you about the pre- and aftercare, the expected results, any risks, and the recovery process for the chosen treatment.

The treatment

Once you've chosen to undergo treatment with us, we'll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire and sign a treatment agreement beforehand. If you take a lot of medication, please bring your medication list to your appointment.

Photos will be taken of you both before and after the treatment for your medical records. In some cases, the skin is locally anesthetized with a numbing cream or anesthetic solution before the treatment.

Aftercare

After the treatment, you will receive an aftercare form by email. You do not need to stay at the clinic and can go home immediately. It is common for the skin to be red and swollen after the treatment, and sometimes some bruising may occur. These side effects will disappear on their own. It is important that you cool the treated area well with the cool pack you received, if advised. If you experience severe bruising, we recommend applying Arnica cream to the treated area.

It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for the first four hours after treatment. Exposure to intense heat (sun, sauna, or tanning bed) is also discouraged for one week after treatment. We advise against having a facial for two weeks after treatment. You can assess the final result after two weeks.

If you have any questions about your recovery, please feel free to contact us.

Risks

The risk of complications is very small. As with any procedure, there is a small risk of infection or allergy.
