10 facts and myths about botulinum toxin and fillers!

#1 Fillers and botulinum toxin are actually the same
FABLEThese are absolutely not the same. Botulinum toxin temporarily prevents muscles from contracting. For example, the frown muscle is the muscle that allows you to look angry; if you have it treated with botulinum toxin, this is temporarily impossible. Fillers are used to add volume, as the name suggests. For example, if you want fuller lips, fillers are the solution.

#2 Fillers and Botulinum Toxin are something of this time, little research has been done on it
FABLE: An Austrian surgeon investigated the effects of Botulinum Toxin as early as the early 18th centuryand century. This was a mixture of mineral oil and paraffin wax.

#3 Botulinum Toxin can cure your “gum smile”
FACT: A gummy smile is characterized by a large amount of visible gum tissue when smiling. This can be quite bothersome for some people. By injecting the muscle with botulinum toxin, it lifts less during smiling, resulting in less visible gum tissue.

#4 Treatments with Fillers or Botulinum Toxin are painful
FACT/MYTHSome people may experience some pain during treatment, but it's not severe. It's comparable to getting a vaccination.

#5 Botulinum Toxin and Fillers can have medical purposes as well as cosmetic purposes
FACTBotulinum toxin is also very effective against teeth grinding and migraines, for example. It's even effective against excessive sweating! Injecting botulinum toxin into your armpits reduces sweating.

#6 You will see immediate results after a Filler or Botulinum Toxin treatment
FACT/MYTHWith a filler treatment, you'll see immediate results, but not the final result. It usually takes a few days before you really see the difference. During the first few days, the skin often needs to recover, or the product hasn't fully absorbed yet. You'll see the final result after 14 days.

#7 Botulinum Toxin and Fillers are permanent and remain in your body forever
FABLEUltimately, both botulinum toxin and fillers are broken down by your body. The effects are typically visible for three to four months with a botulinum toxin treatment and an average of six months with a filler treatment, after which they diminish. Timely resurfacing prevents the effects from disappearing.

#8 Men do not want fillers or botulinum toxin
MYTH: More and more men are discovering the world of injectables. They're coming for treatments such as wrinkles and fine lines, but also for a firmer jawline.

#9 Botulinum Toxin is also injected into your lips
FABLEAs explained above, botulinum toxin is a type of muscle paralyzer. This is not what happens with lip injections. Those are intended to plump the lips, which is precisely what fillers are designed for.

#10 Fillers and Botulinum Toxin are also suitable for other body parts, such as breasts and buttocks
FABLE/FACT: There are few clinics in the Netherlands that offer this. Research is still ongoing. We recommend consulting a plastic surgeon before breast and buttock augmentation.
