Do you suffer from wrinkles or fine lines on your face? Then it's probably due to muscle tension and use. As we age, we all experience this. Some people just experience them a little earlier or a little more than others. Fine lines and wrinkles can be very bothersome. Fortunately, a botulinum toxin treatment offers the perfect solution! Botulinum toxin is a type of muscle relaxant that temporarily paralyzes the so-called "wrinkle muscles." As a result, your wrinkles will temporarily soften or even disappear. Too good to be true? Absolutely not! But keep in mind that this treatment is a temporary solution and must be repeated for lasting results.

Make an appointment online
You can easily book an appointment for your appointment via our online booking system.
If you would like to come for a consultation and be treated immediately, you can book a treatment straight away.
For group appointments or combination appointments, please contact us by phone or email us at info@xavierclinics.nl
Consultation with the doctor
Before all treatments, a consultation is scheduled. During this consultation, the doctor will listen to your wishes and explore the options available to achieve them. The doctor will thoroughly inform you about the pre- and aftercare, the expected results, any risks, and the recovery process for the chosen treatment.
The treatment
Once you've chosen to undergo treatment with us, we'll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire and sign a treatment agreement beforehand. If you take a lot of medication, please bring your medication list to your appointment.
Photos will be taken of you both before and after the treatment for your medical records. In some cases, the skin is locally anesthetized with a numbing cream or anesthetic solution before the treatment.
Aftercare
After the treatment, you will receive an aftercare form by email. You do not need to stay at the clinic and can go home immediately. It is common for the skin to be red and swollen after the treatment, and sometimes some bruising may occur. These side effects will disappear on their own. It is important that you cool the treated area well with the cool pack you received, if advised. If you experience severe bruising, we recommend applying Arnica cream to the treated area.
It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for the first four hours after treatment. Exposure to intense heat (sun, sauna, or tanning bed) is also discouraged for one week after treatment. We advise against having a facial for two weeks after treatment. You can assess the final result after two weeks.
If you have any questions about your recovery, please feel free to contact us.
Risks
The risk of complications is very small. As with any procedure, there is a small risk of infection or allergy.
Where do wrinkles come from?
Where exactly do those pesky lines come from? When your face is completely relaxed, wrinkles are (almost) invisible. But when you speak or listen, you automatically make different facial expressions. Just try to notice! These facial expressions constantly tense voluntary and involuntary muscles. Over the years, these muscles cause the familiar wrinkles. You often see them on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and in the crow's feet along the eyes.
What does a Botulinum Toxin treatment do?
Do you want to (temporarily) put an end to those annoying crow's feet? Or would you like to get rid of that wrinkle between your eyebrows? In that case, a Botulinum Toxin treatment could be the perfect solution! By injecting this special protein directly into your wrinkle-causing muscles, we block the transmission of impulses from the nerves to the muscles. Sounds complicated, but essentially, the muscles are numbed. This prevents both conscious and unconscious muscle contractions, and your wrinkles will be barely visible, if at all. Fantastic, right?!
Is Botulinum Toxin treatment safe?
It sounds a bit scary: a protein injected into the muscle. Fortunately, Botulinum Toxin has been used in medicine for years, and countless studies have been conducted on its effects and potential side effects. Based on both short-term and long-term effects, we can confidently say that using Botulinum Toxin is completely safe. Of course, as long as the treatment is performed by a qualified physician with the necessary knowledge and experience. So don't worry!
Possible side effects of a Botulinum Toxin treatment
Generally, there are no complications following treatment with botulinum toxin. Thanks to the low dosage, even allergic reactions are unlikely. However, you may experience:
- In some cases, patients experience a headache after treatment. This usually subsides after 3 to 5 days.
- A small percentage – about 1 to 2 percent – have antibodies against botulinum toxin. In that case, the treatment is unfortunately (almost) ineffective.
- There's a small chance of flu-like symptoms (mild fever, muscle aches, fatigue). However, these will disappear after a few days.
- Finally, a complication such as a drooping eyelid may occur, this is also rare, but you will be informed about this before the treatment by your practitioner.
Is the treatment suitable for everyone?
Botulinum toxin is not 100% safe in every case. There are several situations and conditions where the use of this protein is strongly discouraged. For example, we will postpone treatment in the event of fever, illness, or infection/irritation. Botulinum toxin treatment is also temporarily unsuitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do you have a permanent filler or is there a malignant disease (such as melanoma) in the area to be treated? Unfortunately, we cannot treat you with botulinum toxin in that case. Do you have a condition related to your muscle activity, such as Eaton Lambert Syndrome? In that case too, we cannot treat you with botulinum toxin.
The results
Immediately after the Botulinum Toxin treatment, the treated area may be red and swollen. This is perfectly normal, and the results will become more visible after 2 to 5 days. Optimal results will be visible after 10 to 14 days. This will last for approximately 3 to 4 months, depending on factors such as your age and muscle activity. If the treatment wears off and you notice the effect is becoming less visible, you can simply repeat the treatment! In some cases, a repeat treatment can extend the visible effect.
