Which lip fillers do we use?

The lip fillers we use at Xavier Clinics consist largely of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and biodegrades over time. This means the lip fillers are not permanent, and the results will diminish after a few months.

Hyaluronic acid might sound a bit strange at first, because the word "acid" often conjures up a specific image. But this acid is actually incredibly good for you! Hyaluronic acid stimulates the production of two crucial proteins: elastin and collagen. While elastin provides skin with elasticity, collagen provides firmness. A fantastic combination!

Moreover, just one gram of hyaluronic acid can retain up to six liters of water. So you can probably imagine that this unique acid contributes to extra hydration. And it does so without overdoing it and releasing too much moisture.

Consultation with the doctor

Before all treatments, a consultation is scheduled. During this consultation, the doctor will listen to your wishes and explore the options available to achieve them. The doctor will thoroughly inform you about the pre- and aftercare, the expected results, any risks, and the recovery process for the chosen treatment.

The treatment

Once you've chosen to undergo treatment with us, we'll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire and sign a treatment agreement beforehand. If you take a lot of medication, please bring your medication list to your appointment.

Photos will be taken of you both before and after the treatment for your medical records. In some cases, the skin is locally anesthetized with a numbing cream or anesthetic solution before the treatment.

Aftercare

After the treatment, you will receive an aftercare form by email. You do not need to stay at the clinic and can go home immediately. It is common for the skin to be red and swollen after the treatment, and sometimes some bruising may occur. These side effects will disappear on their own. It is important that you cool the treated area well with the cool pack you received, if advised. If you experience severe bruising, we recommend applying Arnica cream to the treated area.

It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup to the treated areas for the first four hours after treatment. Exposure to intense heat (sun, sauna, or tanning bed) is also discouraged for one week after treatment. We advise against having a facial for two weeks after treatment. You can assess the final result after two weeks.

If you have any questions about your recovery, please feel free to contact us.

Risks

The risk of complications is very small. As with any procedure, there is a small risk of infection or allergy.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that we produce ourselves. However, its production decreases as we age. Our skin then receives fewer and fewer essential proteins, resulting in decreased volume and firmness, among other things. By injecting hyaluronic acid fillers into the lips, you ensure that the acid levels return to normal. This results in:

  • Extra volume
  • A stronger protective layer of the skin
  • A firm and supple skin
  • A perfect dose of moisture

The fact that hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance offers another significant advantage. Because lip fillers are largely composed of this naturally occurring substance, there are few, if any, risks associated with the treatment. This makes it suitable for all skin types. Do you have sensitive or allergy-prone skin? You're a candidate too! Perfect, right?

The different lip filler techniques

Lip filler treatment can be performed in different ways. There are various lip filler techniques We can apply techniques tailored to your needs and preferences. Consider techniques like "Russian Flat Lips" or "Keyhole Pouth." The Russian Method is clearly one of our favorites! It's no wonder this technique was also used on Kylie Jenner.

But how exactly does it work? It's actually quite simple. We inject the hyaluronic acid vertically into the lip using micro-injections. This makes your lips beautifully round and full without losing their projection. What's really great about this technique is that it gives the appearance of a lip curling upward rather than protruding, so you don't get that familiar "duckface" effect. Thanks to the "Russian Method," we create beautiful, full lips without them sticking out too much.

The lip filler treatment

Getting lip fillers injected? You'll be back out the door in no time! A lip filler treatment only takes 20 to 30 minutes. The fillers are injected into your lips using the technique of your choice.

A lip filler treatment with injections can be quite daunting. Fortunately, we can immediately reassure you: the initial injections feel like small pinpricks, and thanks to the anesthetic in the filler, the treatment becomes painless as it progresses. For added peace of mind, we apply a strong numbing cream to your lips beforehand. Therefore, the lip filler treatment is rarely experienced as excessively painful, and no dental anesthesia is required!

After the lip filler treatment, you can even go home immediately and resume your daily activities. However, we recommend avoiding intense activities, tanning beds, and saunas for a while, and applying cool clothing to reduce swelling. Occasionally, some bruising may occur, but this will heal on its own.

The result

After the lip filler treatment, swelling, bruising, and a little redness may occur due to the injections. If this happens to you, don't panic! This is completely normal and will thankfully disappear very quickly. You'll see optimal results after about 14 days. The duration of the desired results varies from person to person and depends on several factors. We recommend repeating the lip filler treatment after 6-12 months to maintain the desired results.
