Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler that has been around since early 2000. The first usage of Sculptra began in 1999, and it was officially approved by the FDA in 2004. Even though today it’s used for facial treatments or to lift your butt, it was first used to treat lipoatrophy in people who were infected with HIV. How Does A Sculptra Butt Lift Work?
Sculptra uses a formula that it makes works a little differently than other similar dermal fillers. Whereas normal dermal fillers add volume straight away by using hyaluronic acid, Sculptra uses their poly-L-lactic acid formula which is inserted into the dermal layers of the skin. Then, this formula increases the natural production of collagen to give you the desired result.
Collagen is a protein-based compound that sculpts and shapes the skin. Using Sculptra injections the area around the butt is filled with a curved shape, which is made according to the natural shape of your butt and that fits your body type and structure perfectly. This approach is very important as it gives you the shape that fits your body.
However, this is a natural process that can take the collagen up to a few months. Therefore several injections are needed to finally see an improvement in the shape and volume of your butt. A large majority of people who use Sculptra are very satisfied with the results they get.
How Is Sculptra Injected?
Before your treatment, you will consult your cosmetician or doctor for a more thorough explanation of the procedure. Patients are usually given a paper gown to wear. You lay down flat on your stomach and the person performing the procedure will clean the area of injection with alcohol to fully sterilize it and remove any chances of infection down the line.
You might also be able to choose an anaesthetic and have it applied at the area of insertion which will neutralize any feeling of discomfort you may feel when your Sculptra is inserted into your buttocks. All equipment used to apply Sculptra is fully sterilized so there is no risk of an infection or complication. Possible Side Effects
You should be aware that there may be some minimal side effects after the procedure, but major side effects from dermal fillers have not been witnessed. The procedure is extremely safe but you should be aware that this might happen:
- Minimal bruising or some redness
- Asymmetrical results
- Minor lumps or bumps that will flatten over time
- Minor bleeding at the site of injection
- Minor rash at the site of injection
- Itching

What Happens After a Sculptra Butt Lift?
Aftercare of a Sculptra butt lift is very minimal. Hospitalization isn’t required and most likely your caretaker will advise you to avoid drinking alcohol or perform a strenuous exercise for the next two days. Reports have shown that it can take anywhere between 4 and 6 months for results to become visible as this process is completely natural.
As with all dermal fillers, the results aren’t permanent and will subside after about 2 years.
How To Prepare For A Sculptra Butt Lift?
Preparing for a Sculptra butt lift isn’t complicated and it’s very easy to do. All you need to know before the procedure is the following:
- Do not smoke before the procedure
- Do not take medications that cause blood-thinning or herbal supplements up to 2 weeks before the appointment is made
- Do not drink alcohol 48 hours before the procedure

Sculptra vs Surgical Procedures
While the effects of Sculptra may subside over time, they are far safe and much less expensive than a surgical butt lift or a butt implant. Even if you aren’t happy with the result, the effects of the treatment will subside within 2 years of the procedure, unlike the effects of the surgical procedure which are permanent.
